The ceremonial consecration of our new St. Francis church took place on 20th September 2009 an was performed by the bishop of Bolzano-Bressanone diocese, Dr. Karl Golser. The celebration was accompanied by church choir of Castelrotto and the blower ensemble of Alpe di Siusi. Our new church was inaugurated with a wonderful mass at Christmas 2008 already. The project of the architect Dr. Walter Dietl mirrors the nature and the path of life of St. Francis, who was characterized by modesty and humility. Amongst others, the Saint is the patron of the environment and animals. Based on this basic thought, the motive of an pigeon provided the base for the draft. With respect to nature and the humility of St. Francis simple, local construction materials were used. Very special are the traces of wolves, deer and a pigeon integrated into the floor of the altar room. They tell the story of the deep connection between St. Francis and animals in a symbolic way.
Look into our church during your next stay at Alpe di Siusi.
